Mechanisms and kinetics of pore closure in thick aluminum plate

Interrupted in situ tests at high temperature characterized with X-ray microtomography were employed to study porosity evolution under loading conditions representative of aluminum hot rolling. Coupling digital volume correlation and simulations, it is possible access, for each pore, its morphological evolution, the mechanical fields experienced. The closure kinetics hundreds pores studied, which described as pore a function hydrostatic integration. Closure are shape pore. Focus put on complex more detrimental properties. Their exponential due fragmentation during closure. fostered by an initial orientation perpendicular direction low fragmentation. Based 243 pores, new model proposed.
